If you signed in recently and AgroYield redirected you to your profile with an amber banner asking you to pick a location, this article explains why and what to do.
What's happening
When you visit your dashboard after signing in, AgroYield now checks whether your profile has a location set. If the field is empty, you're redirected once to /profile?complete=location with the location dropdown scrolled into view and the page banner showing a friendly prompt. You can pick from the dropdown or type a custom location, then save your profile — after that the redirect doesn't happen again.
This is a one-time prompt per user. New sign-ups won't see it because the onboarding wizard already collects a location.
Why we ask
Location helps in three concrete ways across the platform:
- Market relevance. Price reports, opportunities, grants, and research posts are often filtered by region. With your location set, the modules show you what's relevant to your area first.
- Aggregate insights for the team. The /admin/insights dashboard reports the geographic spread of our user base so we can prioritise content and partnerships per region. Your individual location is never shared on the public directory; only aggregate counts per state appear, visible to AgroYield's investor and co-founder team members under their NDA-equivalent terms.
- Better matchmaking. Mentor and mentee matches, business directory results, and marketplace listings can all be ranked by geographic proximity when we have location data.
What to pick
The dropdown shows Nigeria's 36 states + the Federal Capital Territory + major cities (Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt, Kano, Ibadan, and 37 others). If your location isn't in the list, type a custom value in the same field — the dropdown accepts free text.
Examples of good values:
- "Lagos" or "Lagos, Nigeria"
- "FCT Abuja"
- "Kano"
- "Port Harcourt"
- "Awgu, Enugu" (city, state — also fine)
The system normalises common variants ("FCT" → "FCT Abuja", "Abuja, Nigeria" → "Abuja") so aggregate counts stay clean.
How to change my location later
You can update your location any time at /profile. Sign in, scroll to the Location field, pick a new value, and save. The change takes effect immediately.
I keep being redirected even after saving
If you save a value and the prompt still appears on next sign-in, check:
- Did the save actually succeed? Look for the green toast confirmation or refresh
/profileand verify the field shows your new value. - Did you save an entirely whitespace value? Spaces alone don't count — type at least one non-space character.
- Are you signed in as a different user than before? Each profile is independent.
If none of those resolve it, raise a support ticket at /support and include a screenshot of the prompt + your profile page; the team will investigate.
Internal-team accounts
If you're on the AgroYield internal testing team, the prompt applies to you too. We don't exempt internal accounts because the canonical dropdown is the right shape for everyone, and consistency in the data makes operator queries cleaner.
