AgroYield Network charges a small platform fee on every completed marketplace sale. The fee funds escrow, payment processing, dispute mediation, and continued investment in the platform.
How much is the fee
The current platform fee is 3.2% of the sale amount. It absorbs the payment-processor fee charged by our bank partner (Monnify, ~1.6%) plus AgroYield's own margin (~1.6%), so there's a single transparent line item on every checkout. The rate is admin-tunable and may change as the platform evolves; the current rate is always shown:
- On every sell listing's detail page, just below the price
- On the listing creation form when a seller is setting their price
- In the Buy Now confirmation panel for buyers (Item · Platform fee · Total)
- In the Make Offer modal when buyers propose a price (Your offer · Platform fee · If accepted, you pay)
- In the seller's payment-received and funds-released emails after every sale
Who pays the fee — added on top, not deducted
Sellers receive the full listing price. The platform fee is added on top of the listing price at checkout — paid by the buyer.
This is the same pattern used by Uber, Airbnb, Stripe, and most modern marketplaces. It's transparent for everyone:
- The seller types the price they want to receive. That's what they receive — no surprise deduction at payout time.
- The buyer sees the item price + the platform fee + the total at checkout. No hidden charges, no math required.
- The platform retains the fee, which covers payment processing + escrow + dispute mediation.
Worked example
A seller lists a bag of maize for ₦1,500.
| Who | Sees | Pays / Receives |
|---|---|---|
| Seller | Lists at ₦1,500 | Receives ₦1,500 when delivery confirms |
| Buyer | Item ₦1,500 + Platform fee ₦48 (3.2%) = Total ₦1,548 | Pays ₦1,548 at checkout |
| Platform | — | Retains ₦48 (covers escrow + processing) |
Historical "net" orders
Orders created before May 2026 used a different model where the fee was deducted from the seller's payout (so a ₦1,500 listing → seller received ₦1,452). Those historical orders keep their original math — the order-detail page and seller emails honour the model that was live when the order was created.
If you're reading a seller email and the subject says "Payment received", look at the info card at the top:
- Net orders show "Your payout: ₦X" (after the fee was deducted)
- New (add-on) orders show "Your payout (full listing price): ₦X"
When does the payout settle
Same as before — the fee model only changes how the fee is split, not the settlement timeline:
- Buyer pays at checkout. Funds enter escrow.
- Seller ships within 24 hours, marks the order shipped.
- Buyer confirms delivery (or 7-day auto-release fires if they don't).
- Funds release to the seller's bank account via Monnify disbursement.

How refunds work
When a buyer is refunded — voluntary cancel, dispute resolution, or auto-release reversal — the full amount the buyer paid is refunded, including the platform fee.
For an add-on order at ₦1,548 (item ₦1,500 + fee ₦48), the buyer gets all ₦1,548 back. The platform's commission isn't kept on a refunded sale.
For a legacy net order at ₦1,500, the buyer gets all ₦1,500 back (same shape — full refund of what they paid).
Pricing your listing
Some sellers ask: "should I price lower to be competitive, since buyers will see a fee on top?". The answer is: price your item at whatever you'd be happy to receive. Buyers comparing listings see the breakdown — they know which platforms charge fees on top and which don't. The fee is small (3.2%), and the trust + dispute protection it buys is much more valuable than the small price difference.
If you're moving from another platform that uses the net model, your effective payout is the same or slightly better here:
- On a net-model platform charging 5%: list at ₦1,500 → receive ₦1,425
- On AgroYield (add-on, 3.2%): list at ₦1,500 → receive ₦1,500
Same number on the listing; better payout for you.
