This quickstart walks you through adding your first person to your business — the prerequisite for running payroll, tracking leave, or letting an accountant log into your AgroYield workspace.
Before you start
You need:
- A business set up at
/business/setup(name, sector, state at minimum) - Owner role on the business (only owners can add people)
- The person's full name (always required)
- Their email if they need platform access (only required for collaborators)
Time: about 3 minutes.
Step 1 — Open the People hub
Click People in the sidebar (or ⋯ More → People on mobile). The hub loads at /business/people.
If this is your first time, you'll see an empty state with a single big button: + Add your first person.
Step 2 — Pick the type
Click + Add person at the top of the page (or in the empty state). The wizard asks: what kind of person?
- Employee — they're on your payroll. They don't need to log in to AgroYield. Most field workers, casual labourers, and traders fall here.
- Collaborator — they need platform access (typically your accountant or a co-founder). They get an email invite and sign in to help manage your business.
- Both — they're on payroll AND they need platform access. Typical for an in-house bookkeeper.
Pick the one that matches.
Step 3 — Fill the essentials
The form adapts to your type:
For everyone:
- Full name (always required)
- Email (required for collaborators and "both"; optional for employees)
- Phone (optional)
For employees and "both":
- Job title (e.g. "Bookkeeper", "Field officer", "Driver")
- Start date (today by default)
- Monthly gross salary in NGN (optional — you can add or edit later)
For collaborators and "both":
- Platform role:
- Accountant — read everything, manage invoices/expenses/reports, record payments
- Staff — read-only with limited create access (e.g. log expenses)
Step 4 — Submit
Click the green button at the bottom. The label changes based on your type:
- "Add employee" — creates the staff record. They show up in the People list immediately.
- "Send invite" — creates the team invite and emails them. They appear with a "Pending invite" badge until they accept.
- "Add employee & invite" — does both at once, atomically linked.
What happens after
You'll be redirected to the People hub with a success indicator on the new row.
- Employees show with an "Employee" badge (blue) and their salary on the right.
- Collaborators show with a "Collaborator" badge (purple) and a "Pending invite" status until they accept.
- Both people show with a single "Both" badge (green) — they appear once in the All tab but in both Employees and Collaborators tabs.
What's next
- Run payroll — head to
/business/hr/payrollto generate this month's pay run - Add full HR details — click into the employee's row to expand Identity, Address, Employment, Statutory & Bank, NoK, and Guarantor sections
- Track documents — upload IDs, contracts, performance reviews to their Documents tab
- Approve leave — when employees have leave entitlements set, requests appear at
/business/hr/leave
Common gotchas
The "Add person" button is missing. You're not signed in as the business owner. Only owners can add people.
The "Both" type is greyed out. HR module is disabled platform-wide. You can still add Collaborators. Email support if HR should be enabled for your account.
My collaborator hasn't received the invite email. Check their spam folder first. If still missing, ask them to use the "Forgot password" flow with the same email — that triggers an account-creation pathway. Or revoke and resend the invite from the Collaborators tab.
I want to give an employee platform access later. Edit the employee record and link them to a new collaborator invite — or just create a Collaborator record with the same email and the system will offer to link them.
Privacy
You can add up to 3 active employees on the Free tier. Pro and Growth tiers allow more. Sensitive HR fields (NIN, BVN, bank, guarantor) are visible only to you (the owner) and to accountants — never to staff collaborators or other AgroYield users.
